If you can’t beat them join them, and if you can’t stop him, sign him. For both player and football club this appears to be the logic behind Sean Etaluku and Macclesfield FC joining forces, culminating in the flying winger joining the Northern Premier League’s league leaders for an undisclosed fee from Barrow.
But it was starring on loan for Matlock against Macc where Etaluku recently caught the eye down the right flank, winning a penalty which was duly converted by the Gladiators who were ultimately defeated 3-2 despite drawing level after being 2-0 down.
Etaluku, who turns 21 next month, was on Burnley’s books as a youngster before dropping into non league with Mossley. From there he was picked up by League Two club Barrow and subsequently loaned to Buxton in the National League North and Matlock to gain experience where he impressed Robbie Savage.
