New signings for The Silkmen News
Welcome to James Walker, Matt Todd & Alex Reid
It’s an exciting time to be a Silkmen supporter and we want to capture this euphoria by expanding our coverage on everything Macclesfield FC.
From the fans for the fans, The Silkmen News is an independent Macclesfield FC newsletter, publishing regular articles via email which are also accessible via our Substack site – read all about us.
Launched in May 2024 by Ben Carey, we’ve provided unbiased and comprehensive coverage of the club’s fortunes, including:
Michael Clegg’s departure and Robbie Savage’s appointment
Last season’s unforgettable promotion
Savage’s shock exit
The club’s boardroom reshuffle
Our start to life in the National League North and thrilling FA Cup run
We’ve been pleasantly surprised that so many fans have interacted with our content, either through becoming a subscriber to receive articles directly to your inbox, or by providing feedback online.
A warm welcome to James, Matt and Alex
Now we want to give the best independent voices a platform to produce content on Macclesfield FC that wouldn’t be available elsewhere. We’re therefore delighted to welcome James Walker, Matt Todd and Alex Reid to The Silkmen News.
Many of you will be familiar with James, Matt and Alex who provide commentary on Macclesfield FC. More recently, they have launched the excellent Silkcast podcast.
From today, Silkcast will rebrand as The Silkmen News and new episodes of the podcast will be made available via our Substack site and on all good podcast platforms. To kick things off, we’ll be recording a new episode this evening to discuss the club’s main talking points.
Over time, we’d also like to welcome article contributions and podcast appearances from other Silkmen fans. So if there’s something you feel passionate about and want to get it off your chest, please pitch us your ideas and we’ll consider them!
The Silkmen News is, and will continue to be, FREE for Macclesfield FC supporters. You can, if you wish, pledge to offer a small contribution towards our expenses. Thank you to everyone who has supported the site since its launch, provided feedback and interacted with the site’s content – it’s massively appreciated and has given us the impetus to expand our offering.
The additions of James, Matt and Alex, plus others, will eventually enable The Silkmen News to extend our coverage as we provide an independent, one-stop shop for all highs and lows associated with following Macclesfield FC.
At the heart of it, we’re all passionate fans who want to provide quality, independent coverage on the Silkmen to fill the gap left by declining newspaper and radio coverage. And we hope this newsletter brings you along for the ride.
Thank you for your support.
