The view from Stockton Town after Macc’s 1-0 win
JJ’s strike sends the Silkmen top of the league
Macclesfield are top of the Northern Premier League this morning following a hard-fought 1-0 victory on the road against Stockton Town. A cracking strike from Justin Johnson on the stroke of half-time gave Macc all three-points in a lively encounter which saw Stockton captain Adam Nicholson sent off after 68 minutes.
Here’s the view from Stockton Town on the game.
On the sending off of Stockton captain Adam Nicholson:
“Can’t say I seen all what happened for the red card, except the blatant push on Stockton no.5 (Adam Nicholson) from their no.9 (Danny Elliott), but I’d have expected both to have seen red. In the first half the ref had chance to stamp his control on the game and hinder the tactics of constant harassment to himself after a studs-up nasty challenge from their no.3 (Brandon Lee) deserved red. In my opinion, they (Macclesfield) deserved the win, but the red card ultimately curtailed any chance of sneaking an equalizer.”
“Poor officiating today. Should have showed a red card in the first half for an absolutely shocking tackle. Can’t really comment on the red for Stockton as I couldn’t see from the other end of the ground. But I’m pretty sure raising your hands in retaliation is also a red?”
“You see it in most games, should have at least got something out of the game.”
“Wrong person sent off. Terrible decision.”
“What about the elbow in the face which didn’t get a red. Shocking decision.”
“Shocking from the officials today. That tackle in the first half was a straight red. Even the away fans said ‘well played lads you deserved better today’.”
“Great game, gave what we had, could have gone either way. How Ady (Adam Nicholson) got sent off I have no idea. Reckon he pulled one of their player’s hair – don’t believe that.”
“Unreal atmosphere, Shed absolutely bouncing. Ref decides one awful tackle is a yellow but some handbags in the box is a red. Honestly ya lino let ya down anyway. Away fans came straight from the library.”
“Well played Elliot Stephenson (Stockton goalkeeper). Had a great game. Really impressed.”
“We played a good game as they did. One mistake gave them a chance and they took it. We deserved a draw but that’s football. Well played lads.”
“Shocking sending off. The referee bottled it and put the decision onto the lino’s shoulders and they both got it wrong. Not nice to see the police in Sainsbury’s car park dealing with away fans after the game.”
“Better team won, but the red card was a shocker!”
“We were brilliant against a better team, even though the referee wanted to inhale the bottom of Robbie Savage. We showed true class to play past that.”
“Well done Michael (Stockton boss Michael Dunwell). We were really good today and stopped the favourites from the league dominating the game. I’m not going to say some people forget where we’ve come from because most of them don’t know where we’ve come from, but I was super proud today.”
“Well done today (Stockton boss Michael Dunwell) and the team – fantastic workrate and on another day we get something from that one.”
“Don’t get me wrong we lost to a very good side, but it was made even harder by some very strange and dubious refereeing decisions.”
“Ref got his license from a happy meal. What an absolute joke he was.”
“Hard luck lads. Not one to moan usually, but I thought the ref’s ruined what was a good game…. and what was looking like a good second half. Not just the sending off, but just strange decisions in general ruining the flow of the game.”
“Quite possibly the worst referee I’ve ever seen.”
“Not sure it was the referee – think the linesman was pulling the strings, but the ref was too weak to make his own mind up.”
“’The Shed’ (Stockton’s main area of support) was excellent today.”
“Shed was lively. Mega atmosphere – 1,400 Stocktonians can make some noise!!”
“Non-stop brilliant. Even had Robbie Savage laughing at times.”
“We could have won it.”
“Really good game. Macclesfield were really good but we matched them all the way. Game could have went either way to be honest. Really enjoyed the game. Well done to both teams.”
“At least it was only 1-0 and we didn’t let any more goals in after the red card.”
“No worries lads, they had more experience when they needed it!”
