The view on Dontai Gabidon from FC United fans
Gabidon handed debut as second half sub in Macc's win over Gainsborough
Macc have added another promising talent to their ranks with the capture of exciting wide player Dontai Gabidon for an undisclosed fee from FC United of Manchester. Gabidon, who can operate primarily down the left flank, was an unused sub for FC United in Macc’s 2-1 recent win at Broadhurst park.
The 23-year-old Gabidon broke through at Altrincham as a teenager but was restricted to single digit appearances. However, he went on to make his mark for FC United, registering 19 goals in 75 matches and impressing with his pace and direct play. So far this season, Dontai has netted one goal in FC’s 3-3 draw against Hyde in the FA Cup first qualifying round.
Here’s a selection of views from FC United of Manchester supporters on Robbie Savage’s latest acquisition.
“Best of luck Dontai. Sorry to see you go – a great player.”
“Good luck Dontai. One of the few bright sparks from last season.”
“Money talks, players walk. We can’t pay what other clubs can due to our debt on the stadium.”
“Relegation it is then.”
“The problem with fan ownership – never going to have enough money to keep good players and push up the leagues.”
“Players come and go, and we’ll have received a fee for Dontai as he was under contract.”
“FFS – arguably our best attacking player! I wondered why he didn’t play against Macc or come on as sub. I hope that that wasn’t a condition of the transfer – if so, it’s poor. Sat 21st – appoint new manager. Tuesday 24th – sell best attacking player. Disappointed! Usually more to it, and if he wanted to leave, so be it. Glad we had him for a few seasons, and hope he goes on to develop. He’s a gifted player.”
“Can’t stand in the way of a player’s progress.”
“Long season ahead.”
“Good business by FC.”
“Gutted. Shame to see him go. All the best.”
“Good luck with your next step.”
“A gifted player. Wishing you well Dontai – thanks for your efforts.”
“Good luck and thanks Dontai. Been exciting to watch in an FC shirt. Loads of natural ability and get the sense there’s still lots more to come.”
“All the best. Quality player.”
“Good player with great potential, should improve under new guidance. Lose the bandage.”
“Had some potential but nowhere near the finished article yet. Needed to toughen up a bit and a bit injury prone so no major loss to FC. Better he goes now if he’s not committed.”
“Right move for the player and the club. Needs to get to the next level by consistently knowing when to shoot and when to play in the player who is now in a better position. Not sure he’d get there fast enough for him and for us by staying. Good luck to the lad.”
